Television Reception at the Cottage

There will be NO Television at the Cottage!

That was my mantra when planning for the cottage, while building the cottage...  I am not quite sure when my resolve was lost.

Maybe it was becaue my old TV got 'stored' there...

Maybe it was the long cold winter evenings...

Maybe it was the two omni-directional antennas that I inherited when my parents downsized to an apartment...

It started insidiously...

First it was "let's see what channels we can get with that Omni Antenna"...

Then it was "would the reception be better if "... we put the omni antenna up on the roof instead of the in the attic...

Then came some research:
  • How far are we from the TV transmitting towers?
  • What channels are available?
  • What direction are the TV Transmitting Towers?
  • What kind of antennas provide good reception at a distance?
  • How do we mount the antennas?
  • How does the digital to analog conversion work?
Lots of research which resulted in the double bow-tie antenna shown in the above picture being mounted on the roof.

The final result?  yes we get more channels and with better reception...  but the board games, cards and games still come out...  along with novels and just curling up in my big leather chair and soaking in some great blues....

Coming Up:
In a few upcoming posts we will review all we know about getting TV reception up at the cottage...
