How to get a Topographical Map of Your Cottage Lake

While at the Spring Cottage Life Show we dropped by the booth for Federal Publications Inc.(FedPub)  This is the organization that has the 'licence' to print and sell Federal publications - and the ones we were most interested in were their topographical maps.

At the booth, the process was quite easy - assisted by a person from FebPub.  We just explained where our cottage and lake was, and they found it on a computer.  We played around with the scale and orientation until we got it just right and then they printed the map right there!  We had a choice of photo paper or a water proof paper (great for nautical maps which they also can provide), as well as size.  And the price was right - just $19.95 for a 13" x 19" map.

Late last week we took the map in to Costco to have it framed.  It is due to be ready this week - when we get get it back I'll share the result with you.

Take the Chill off Cool Evenings at the Cottage

In the previous post I shared our recent experience at the Spring Cottage Life Show in Toronto, Canada.  This show is a must attend if you have a cottage, either on land or floating (a boat).  If it is worth having it will be displayed at the show.  Fortunately this year we didn't break the bank spending but we did get some neat items.

One of those items was a patio heater made by Napoleon.  We really like the mini version (pictured at the right) because:

• It was smaller, thus would fit our deck requirements
• Had a choice of the 2 lb mini propane canisters or a hose attachment to the standard size propane tanks
• The price was right.  There was a Show sale PLUS they threw in the hose attachment for standard tanks.

The reason for our purchase was in part the result of my wife suggesting that if we had a bit more 'heat' in the spring that she could enjoy the sun outside...  Me being a hot-blooded male not having an issue with the chill of early Spring...

The Cottage Life Show was Great! ...as usual!

I have enjoyed the Cottage Life Show, especially the Spring version, every time that I have attended it, and this past show, we went on March 26th, did not disappoint.

It was quite helpful to discover new products, and help ideas on solving various problems and projects I hope to tackle in the future.  I was especially pleased that I didn't over spend this time.  We only purchase a topographical map of our Lake - with the purpose of framing it for the cottage, a BBQ skillet (for cooking eggs, etc), and a mini-propane 'patio' heater for those cool evenings on the deck.

I'll talk about all those items in up coming posts.

An Annual MUST Event: The Spring Cottage Life Show

We try to make the annual pilgrimage to the Spring Cottage Life Show - alas we didn't make it the past two years as we were consumed by actually building the cottage.

We are not missing the Show this year, and, in fact, will be there this Friday, March 26.

If you haven't been you owe yourself a treat.  It is one huge show - if you can only go to one go to the Spring Show as it is about 3 times the size of the Fall Show.  It is held at the International Centre, just north of Toronto Pearson International Airport.  It is 6 huge halls stuffed to the brim with everything to do with cottage life. Every year we go, even if we don't buy anything we always come away with some great ideas.
