Imagining the Gazebo Deck

Here is the view from the garden door on the main floor. Put your imagination cap on and you can see [well I can... ;-) ] the deck for the gazebo, and just over the hand railing I can see the top of our bunkie, or guest cottage. The rough opening for the gazebo is shown below.

The Bunkie is were the project manager and the project cook ( his wife) call home at the end of a construction day. Just in front of it (to the the left of the picture you can just see the front of the outhouse.

Imagining the View!

During a break in framing, we marveled of the view to come while standing in front of the framed wall on the lakeside.

The discussion quickly focused on the need for two trees that needed to come down -- once we have the cottage and deck built of course.

It was a fresh feeling standing on the floor, at over a story high and out of the basement or previously the excavation. The breeze was a nice change from the opr4ssive heat we had experienced the past 2 weekends.

The Snow is finally gone!!!!

I was up to the cottage lot twice on the weekend and please to discover that the snow is finally gone!

I borrowed my eldest son's pickup truck to take two loads of 'stuff' destined for the cottage. Not only have I been planning the construction of the cottage over the past few weeks I have also been packing up at my home.

The background:
I got married just under two years ago. At the time we decided that she would move into my place for the first few years and we would rent her place. I just sold my place and now that we are consolidating to my wife's home we have an abundance of furniture. The new home is already furnished so except for the clothes on our backs virtually all the furniture in the current place is targeted for the cottage. Just as well as my place was furnished in early Canadian bachelor.

So the two loads in the pickup truck this weekend consisted of patio furniture, workbench, tents -- you know the stuff that accumulated in your garage. Fortunately we have a large storage shed up at the Lot -- which is getting filled to the brim.

My closing date is May 15th, so we are moving into the new (for me) home next weekend. "Wait you say... where is your furniture going? the cottage isn't built yet!!" Well I have a solution for that... it is going into storage, but a unique storage operation which I will explain in a future post.

39 Steps... Heck no we have 104!

I mentioned the lot is steep. But that doesn't bug me one little bit as the view from the top, of the lake, is fabulous!

It was quite humorous as I was building the stairs down to the lake. It took me an entire summer. As I started from the top and worked my way down, neighbours paddling by on the lake could only head the hammering and the occasional saw. As I got closer to the lake, I weaved my way between and around trees - yes I am a tree hugger - I could to begin to see out on to the lake, but paddlers and boaters could see me. It was quite funny watching them stop, squinting their eye trying to see where all the racket was coming from.

In the end I finally broke through the trees and began to build the dock. The mystery solved - well sort of...
